You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries on your own by following a few easy steps. First, you must locate a clean working surface to complete the process. Then, arrange all the tools needed. Find the battery hatch, and make sure it is set to «open.» Use a flathead screwdriver or costs coin or a similar tool to open the hatch open. Then, carefully pull out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook on the key-ring. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to protect the contacts or the clips.

Insert the new battery into the socket after the previous one has been removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is securely seated in all of the clips. Slide the cover toward the key-ring section until it loosens and it falls off. Then, take off the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade hidden inside. It can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver’s side in the event that you’ve lost or broken the key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Note: Older Volvos use a different type of battery that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, so you will need to be cautious about the placement of your replacement.
