Titration

This is a process which can take several weeks and involves adjusting your child’s medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It’s not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that best fits your child’s ADHD. It’s important for parents to take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child’s behaviour to let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.
Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You’ll need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.
Follow-up appointments
After the assessment is complete, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).
We will then discuss treatment options and decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a discussion and review of your dosage of medication and any side effects you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.
The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be having or other mental health problems that you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is important that we assess any family history that might indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

We suggest that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether they require the submission of a GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic for prescription medication.
Medication
For many people who want an official diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key aspect of their journey. Getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.
